Proprioception is your body awareness relative to the space around you. It’s your awareness of space and your body in that space.
For example if you tried walking with your eyes closed, you are able to do this because you have a ‘sense’ or awareness of where the floor is, and how to move your foot forward and onto to the floor when you can’t see where you are actually stepping.
Proprioception is essential to balance and regaining your balance when you start to fall. To test and work on improving your proprioception, try this yoga sequence with your eyes closed.
You can watch the video to know what the verbal cues mean. Then challenge yourself to try the same sequence with your eyes close and see what it feels like.
