Home practice video 1 (15 minutes): brief yoga practice that includes a focus on balance and hips
Why we balance?
Nearly every yoga class I teach, will have some sort of one leg balance. Balancing on one leg helps build strength in your feet, ankles, calves, knees, thighs and hips (and even your core if you use it!) – no wonder it’s so useful. Research has also shown that improved balance helps prevent falls and that keeps us living longer.
In my regular classes we’ve been working on a balance sequence that involves a range of movement. This helps with coordination and adds some fun and challenge.
If you pay attention to the arm movements, you’ll also get a stretch in your shoulders and help activate core strength.
Since one leg balance uses a lot of leg muscles, especially the hips and buttocks, this video includes a few ways to stretch those areas.
