Balancing on one leg is a good way to work on balance and it strengthens the muscles in your feet (especially when barefoot), ankles and legs. To keep it interesting, add variations or try closing your eyes.
This pose is a great way to still twist while working on your balance and discovering how your visual focus can affect your balance.
The how to:
- Start with your feet hip-width apart and toes straight ahead. Hands on hips or out to the sides.
- Find your balance on your left foot and lift your right knee.
- Keep your hips facing forward.
- Reach your left hand across to the outside edge of your right knee.
- If that feels stable, twist your right shoulder back.
- If that feels stable look back to your right.
- If that feels stale reach your right hand out behind.
- Come out of the pose one step at a time.
- Then try the other side.
If you find it difficult to keep your balance, let your toes touch or hover off the ground.
