I love a good spinal twist. So I was bit shocked when I went on my last photoshoot with Tony Gazley and realised we hadn’t taken any photos of spinal twists. Here’s a basic version.
- Start on your back. Bend your knees and bring your feet to the floor.
- Lift up your hips and move them over to the left side so that your right buttock is in the middle.
- Then stretch your right leg down the mat. Bring your left knee across your body to the right side. It may or may not reach the ground.
- There is no right or wrong place for your right foot. It can be either side of your leg, stretched out or anywhere else.
- You can press down on your left knee with your right hand to deepen the twist.
- You can rest your left arm out to the side. If it is too intense for your shoulder, your left hand can rest on your side.
- Two switch sides, unwind your knee. Bring both feet to the ground, then move your hips to the right side with your left buttock in the centre. Straighten your left leg down the centre and bring your right knee across the body. Press down with your left hand on the right knee.
When you have done both sides about the same amount of time, bring both feet to the floor and bring your hips back to the middle of the mat. Then bring your knees in to your chest and give them a hug, rocking side to side.
